I bought these to replace my ASICS Gel-Cumulus 17 shoes. On paper they seemed to have the same features including the 10mm heal/Toe differential. But these shoes have a thicker and firmer heal than the "17"s. The "17"s have a very soft heal-to-toe roll when walking. These shoes have a hard heal impact on the outer edge by comparison. I need the soft roll of the "17"s to avoid aggravating neck issues on long hikes. The heal/toe differential is more like 13-14mm than the 10mm specified. The shoes fit the same as the "17"s but the cushioned performance is much different. My comparison was done with a second pair of "17"s bought on Amazon 28 months ago but not yet used.

These shoes are significantly lighter in weight than the past 7+ generations of Gel Cumulus shoes - which leads me to believe that there is less Gel in them. The Gel that is usually visible on the front of the shoes in the ball of your foot area is gone. The "flylite" foam that they are now using may be the contributor to the lack of weight, but one thing I did like from these shoes were that they were sturdy, rigid, and had some good weight and gel to them...well see how they fair this year.

Asics line has really hit a dead end for me. Have been wearing their shoes for 40 years, but seems like they are making cheaper shoes at higher prices. The Cumulus 20 may be last pair I ever buy. PROS: hmmm.... not sure, maybe that they look good. CONS: Squeak badly with every step - even after months of around home wear and silicon spray seems to offer only a temporary solution, tight. uppers a bit low, uncomfortable if worn too long, durability questionable.

Wore these once so far for a 10K run. They are true to size and initially felt a little tight in the area just above the arch, on the inside of my foot. After wearing them briefly, this went away. I have no issue with these. They replaced my Cumulus 18s and I feel they are more comfortable than those. Very comfortable. If I had to do it over again, I would definitely buy these again.

Shoes are little heavy, but I needed more cushion, so I guess the trade off is worth it!!!
