I owned, loved, and wore out, two pairs of the previous edition of these boots. The Ultra 3 exceeded expectations. Very minimal break-in required, perfectly adjustable fit and breathable, waterproof performance as before. With the Ultra 3 I got improved traction, particularly on descents. These are about as light as I can imagine a full-support boot being. I put in lots of miles in the Rockies and the Ozarks and these boots are the best Ive worn.

I bought these boots specifically to do a courses of action small unit tactics course over a period of ninety six hours. During these 96 hours we only slept about 8 hours because of this we were on our feet most of the time hiking and patrolling in the high desert regions of Southern Utah both on flat surfaces and on mountainous and heavily forested Terrain. These Boots worked out rather well and while they did come out beat up my feet did not I did not get any blisters nor have any other areas on my feet which showed significant wear as I had expected. Theres a few areas with some dry skin but other than that my feet were good. The boots even helped protect my feet when I stepped on a board with a nail in it and reduced the damage to my foot. The one thing I did notice was that the insoles seem to curl over a little bit after I wash the boots Im not sure if that was because of the drying process which include using a blow dryer to help dry quicker or not although I suspect the blow dryer heat cause this. I do intend to replace the insoles. I cannot recommend These Boots more as they saw heavy use in a short period of time on rough Terrain and kept my feet protected and moving.

I purchased these 5 months ago, and wanted to see how they broke in before a review. I use these for work. I live in the Appalachians, and work outside. I walk several miles a day, and wanted something light, durable, breathable, and waterproof. It is VERY hard to find anything that fits those 4 criteria. So heres what Ive found about these shoes. For the first week, they were pretty tight, and had too much arch support. Ive never had that problem before, and towards the end of the day, it was pretty painful. But both those issues went away within a week. They are very light, especially considering Ive always had to use heavy work boots. I was certain these wouldnt be waterproof, considering it has a mesh top. I was wrong. I dont know how these stay dry. It is honestly the most impressive aspect of these shoes. Rain, mudpuddles, wet grass, nothing gets through. They have been thoroughly soaked. That being said, I havent submerged the mesh part to see how long it could hold water out. Which brings us to breathability. The mesh, while holding out water, breathes very well. FINALLY a day at work without sweaty feet! I wasnt sure how they would hold up, but they are tough. 5 months of hard wear, and they still look new. Ive never had shoes made in India, so I worried a bit about that. There was no reason for concern. So far nothing is coming apart. They get EXCELLENT traction on ANY surface Ive been on. After buying over 6 pairs of high end work boots, Im very pleased with the price and functionality. They are also very flexible compared to ANY work boot Ive ever had. They also fit very well. I was concerned about not trying them on first, but the size was right on. I STRONGLY recommend these boots for either hiking or a mobile job. Unless these absolutely fall apart tomorrow, I will definitely buy again.

My review echos many of the other reviews on these boots. I wear a 12 and bought the 11.5 as I have done with 3 previous pairs of the X Ultras. These now seemed to run a hair smaller and narrower then the previous version. So keep in mind that you should try these on in a store first. Not really sure why Salomon is messing around with their already goofed up sizing but it is frustrating. Now - I like my pair and I like them a lot. I wear them everyday and work in the investigation field so they hit the demands of North country salt, snow, slush, and all the other crap I put them through. They are watertight to a inch of water/slush and my feet do not over heat. Best of all if need I can run in these boots...and run well. Much better then the standard boots worn by my coworkers. They are professional looking and hold up so well that I will likely stick with this brand for many years. I have a work pair, outside chore pair, and a running in the snow pair. I get a year out of these but again I wear them everyday. No too shabby!! Four stars for the sizing issues but otherwise - perfect.
