I normally wear a 10ee or a 10.5ee so I got an 11m. The problem with these shoes isnt in the width, thats fine. Its the heel thats small. It will need some stretching, mink oil and love, before they will be comfortable. This is contrary to every pair of Docs Ive owned, most fit the heel but not the toebox. The cut of the quarter (the part of the uppers around the heel and ankle) is narrower than expected. Im not exactly happy with this purchase, I can live with it, but many of the reviews on this shoe dont really tell you how it really fits. Update: They are subpar shoes with very little in the way of arch support. The soles are ok at best, they do not mark floors. But they lack impact absorption and feel very thin. The interior cushion between the soles and the leather like insert, has frayed and is poking through the sides of the interior. Ive only worn these shoes at least a dozen times. As Ive worn them long enough I doubt I would get a refund, but I will not be buying Docs again. 87$ + Tax lost as a learning expense.

At first I noticed the sole pattern is different from what I always wore going back to the early 90s in junior high school. They felt close to the same as I remember but the soles didnt seem as thick as I remembered and the stitching seems a more brighter yellow than I remember but otherwise, close enough. I dont wear them every day by any means and take care of them using the wonder balsam and had just changed out the old laces for new ones along with some new comfort insoles, both direct from the Dr. Martens web store. While I was cleaning them with the balsam and re-lacing them with the new laces and inserting the new insoles, I noticed on my right shoe on the outside the rubber sole had separated horizontally along the ribs several inches and you could see inside the shoe I have no idea how long its been that way but I imagine it started some time ago. As I finally sat down tonight to write Dr. Martens on the website and take pictures I noticed that the left shoe on the inside had the same issue but a longer opening running along with the rubber ribs a few inches longer. I decided to write a review here to go along with others same problems that I never saw when I purchased them. Ive included two photos taken tonight and Im definitely not happy since they dont hold up anywhere near what they used to but this is just a design problem. I figure if I did wear them every day they probably only would have lasted for the 6 months to year that others have seen but since I dont wear them every day or walk a lot in them they lasted me about 20 months or so. This is a complete failure since there is nothing wrong with the leather or wear on the bottom of the soles but this problem makes the shoes useless. Dont buy these shoes or any like them unless they have fixed the issue or you too will be disappointed. Why arent these recalled so defective shoes arent continued to be sold???

The Docs made in Vietnam are garbage, and that is what these are. Within 3 weeks the soles were breaking away from the shoe as depicted in the many photos. Very disappointing, it is really had to find original Docs that are made in the UK. Enough with these cheap knockoffs, these really should never be sold, they just give the brand a bad reputation. I have been through several pairs of these on Amazon, they always come unglued at the sole within a few weeks, because these cheap shoes are glued, not stitched like real Docs. I would like to buy the "Made in England" collection, but Amazon does not sell them, I would gladly pay more for quality.

I bought these because everyone told me I should. I figured that maybe there was something to it. This is typically the style of shoe I like to wear. Now that Ive bought them... I would pass. The next time. I used to wear a pair of $40 Dr. Scholes from Walmart. These are about as comfortable, look just about as good, and are double the price. The insoles remind me of Timberland Pro Series work boots. If you dont know what that feels like, your lucky. It is like having a piece of ply wood in your shoe. These shoes are a little softer than that, but not by much. As for looks... Im not so sure that they even look all that great. I think the Dr. Scholes look just as good, if not better. Either way, If I had to do it all over again, I would buy Dr. Scholes and some really good inserts and save $20-$30.

Ive had a pair of English 8053s for the last 15 years. Ive worn them nearly 85-90% of the time in those fifteen years. Theyve been on countless trips abroad and used in industry. The quality and workmanship are not up to the same standard any more. The pair I just purchased I compared directly and found the following: 1. Leather cut rougher and less skiving on the edges. 2. Stitching rougher and not as many stitches per inch. This is especially noticeable in between the toe piece to the sides. 3. Insole now composite rubber and vinyl, original was leather and cork that was glued down to the entire length of the sole. Current one only has vinyl down to the arch and is removable. This means it doesnt mold to your foot as well and will wear out faster. 4. Original also had leather covering the inner triple stitching for the toe cap-side seam. This leather had a smaller stitch to keep it in place and also protect the triple stitching. Without this the stitching is going to wear from use from your foot and eventually separate. 5. Sole tread pattern is awful. Go back to the original diamond boot pattern. This made for better traction and longer wear. The new is also a softer durometer urethane and therefore wont last as long. 6. The tongue is not as wide as the old pair. This means that the laces arent covered as much and builds pressure points on each side. 7. Eyelets are now plastic instead of brass. I liked the brass because it got smoother as it wore and had a nice patina to them. The break in period was about 1 week with a treating of balsam about every other day. Treating a pair of Docs with balsam will definitely extend the life of the shoe, hence one of the reasons Ive had the other pair for 15 years. I have decided to keep this pair but I dont expect them to last me like the other ones. I would have willing paid more to have the same level of craftsmanship as my original 8053. This pair will merely be a stop gap to find a better pair of shoes.
